Albania is a beautiful country that’s mixed with Middle Eastern and Western culture. Majority of the people are Muslim, but there’s also other type of religion. People are conservative but extremely friendly. Its a great place to visit because it has mountain, Ocean and ancient sites to visit. You just need to know how to get around unless you are just visiting the capital- Tirana
(1) Self Drive
Renting car is feasible in Albania but trying to know your way is difficult. A lot of the road in Albania is Unfinished you can hardly know from your GPS . Even you buy a guide book or ask people they might not have any update. Also, most of the road sign only written in Albanian. It’s difficult from outsider to know they way. Also, like most developing countries, traffic police is corrupted. They are waiting to see how driver did minor mistake and try to get money out of it. So, self driving is not a good suggestion before 2016, not sure if everything will be better after 🙂
(2) Hire a guide
It’s easy to find a guide in Albania and it’s much cheaper to join a tour. If you need local guide pls email me directly. The road is bad in albania but it’s so scenic. If you need a pee stop you must purchased something from a ship or buy a coffee in order to use their WC.
(3) Join a tour
Tour is expensive in Albania not because the living standard is high. It’s because getting around is not easy and not a lot of people come to Albania. There’s NO bg tour group and normally have just small group. I myself only have 2 party in my tour and it’s like a private tour. When it’s a private tour, it’s expensive. And they know tourist have money. The tour I joined is called Albania-travelnet and they are awesome. We had a private car, a private guide plus local guide in this tour so we can go, do and eat whatever we want-kind of as we still have to stick to schedule 🙂 There’s no hostel so you really cannot do it very very cheap. But it’s so nice to have somebody to arrange everything for you and if you are on a tight schedule, you definitely need to join tour
(4) Public transportation
I have read on Thorn Tree Lonely Planet that people can travel around Albania using Public transportation. plus there’s couchsurfing and airBNB in Albania so if YOU HAVE TONE OF TIME, it’s very feasible you can do it 🙂
Ocean are SO beautiful
Restaurant are so nice!
Night life is also amazing in Albania
Beach resort can be found but don’t expect it to be like the Caribbean
Coffee shops are everywhere….eve on a beach
So many natural resources in Albania
There’s natural spring water in Albani which you can buy in bottles. Needless to say most of the energy use by this country is clean Hydro Electric!
See! except for Mosque you can still see church over there in Albania
Mountain is stunning and you can ski in Albania during winter time.
Albania was once conquered by the ottoman empire. There’s so many those kind of building and ancient city in Albania
That’s why I said Albani is a mix of Middle east and West
the food in Albani are mostly Cheese and Bread. IT’s Very similar to middle eastern food also.
However, Albania have a very very very strong coffee culture. All the cafe in Albani is SO NICE and CHEAP.
Most people (mostly men as Albania is a Muslim country) )drink Expresso in Albania as it’s so close to italy. I totally think men are addicted to expresso as I seen them drinking from morning till evening.
Can you believe Albania also produced wine? and Brandy and everything? Drinking alcohol in Albani is also very cheap and I always say to everyone if the tourism in albania is good, everyone will come here as the booze is so cheap. Just a lot of place is not easily accessible! and Not a lot of flight flying to Tirana.
Anyway, I love Albani and I love Albanian. It’s one of my favorite country in the world! So get ready and decide how you want to explore this country.
Also, Do I see fashion inspiration in here? Absolutely! There’s tons of ethic things in this small country that’s gonna fascinate!!
