Traveling from Budapest to Brasov

Traveling from Budapest to Brasov

Many people have travel around Europe but since different part of Europe are so different, the mode of traveling should be of great consideration. So, what do I mean by the mode of traveling? I mean the type of transportation you should consider while moving from place to place- by bus, train or car? Obviously, if money doesn’t matter, then you should definitely go by car. It’s the most convenient and time saving way. But for most people, traveling around EASTERN EUROPE by bus should be the best option. Since I did traveled to Eastern Europe for a bit and talked to a lot of local people, below are my 2 cents for getting around that area:)

(1) Best way to travel around Eastern Europe is by BUS.. This is because trains in Eastern Europe are Old and Slow. If you want to save time and hassle, I strongly suggest you to travel by Bus. Bus mostly provide comfortable seatings and movies/wifi are sometimes available on the bus. However, for my own experience, movie and wifi didn’t exit even though it’s stated on the bus ticket!

(2) Do not buy train pass (eg Euro pass, Balkan Flexpass) if you are just traveling around Eastern Europe-Traveling around  and across countries by train and bus are very cheap. If you do not plan to travel by train 2 times a day and for a very long distance, the money you spend on train pass is just NOT cheaper.

(3) Train travel can be better if you are traveling for long distance or for very long hours. This is because only train travel give you the option to choose a bed to sleep in. Also, restaurant cart can be very useful if you do like to have a drink. Voka and beer are always available on any eastern european train:P

However, I strongly suggest you guys to buy a 4 berth compartment ticket rather than a 3 berth or 6 berth compartment. This is because 3 berth compartment is much smaller than 4berth so the extra money you paid actually don’t buy you more space. However, a 6 berth compartment is only a couple of euro less, but the compartment is much smaller and have to fit in 6 people. When I was traveling from Budapest to Brasov, the ticket office lady didn’t asked me what kind of ticketI wanted and just put me into a 6 berth compartment. When I saw the compartment that night, I was devastated!!! I saw 5 big men struggled to get their big backpacks into the compartment and there was no way I could got myself inside. I was blocking the whole pathway and even though people were complaining, there’s nothing I can do. Also, I COULD SMELLED disgusting body odor coming from inside the compartment, but hey, who could blamed anyone as it’s a very hot summer night with 5 big guys inside!! So, I decided to rush to the restaurant cart and had some Voka!!! After a couple of glasses, I finally got back to the compartment and went to bed! I was SO thankful the alcohol actually helped me to forget how crowded and smelly it was inside the compartment:P. Below are the photo taken from the 6 berth compartment when everyone’s gone and after I folded up 2 of the bed towards the wall. It is REALLY SMALL believe me!

(4) Bring mosquito repellant while traveling on the train. Train always don’t have Air conditioning and window are always open. If you think there will be no mosquitos, then you are wrong!!! I was eaten by mosquitos alive on every stops!!! I have to tell you, it’s very essential!!!!
