You cannot compare trekking chimpanzé in Guinea to Uganda because it’s a smaller habitat but still it’s a fascinating experience! The rainforest where the chimpanzé live is very close to the camp site where we are staying so the local told me that from time to time they can see chimpanzé families crossing the road!!

I got a chance to get into see the chimpanzé up-close because one male chimpanzé suddenly stood up and walked passed us! Sadly I couldn’t took photo of that moment because no eye contact is allowed with the chimpanzé as they are very dangerous! One male chimpanzé is as strong as 4 African Men!!! They are also very curious so they are NOT as gentle as Silverback Gorilla.

One thing that bother me is-according to WWF, Chimpanzees have already disappeared from 4 African countries, and are nearing extinction in many others. Deforestation and commercial hunting for bushmeat are taking a terrible toll on most populations. That’s why we have to take extra care of protecting them. If you see the photo above, you will see we need to wear masks NOT to protect ourselves but to protect the Chimpanzees from getting human GEMS! They got sick quit easily if they are infected  by human virus!!!!

There’s just so many wildlife in Africa which are so fascinating! I hope we all can help to protect them so our next generation can still see them:) Cheers

How cool that you got to see chimpanzee up close!
I recently got a book written by Jane Goodall about her life with chimpanzees. She also collaborated with Disneynature recently on a film, the trailer looks beautiful:

  3. Blah, I hate monkeys, they creep me out 😀 But I do agree about the extinction part. Waaay too many people are killing wildlife, in a few years we will be left with no wildlife to kill -_-

  4. Dearest Tammy,
Thanks for your additional info via comments! This is fascinating and yes, so sad that they have almost wiped out those Chimpanzees in several countries by consuming them as ‘bush meat’.
You got great photos again and quite some experiences in this equatorial country.
How could we all contribute more to making the beauty of this country knows so tourism would start triggering in. As you stated, the locals are waiting for their country being discovered as such. Let’s hope our economy will change and make travel become again a feasibility.
    Hugs to you,
