Bakau, Gambia

Bakau, Gambia

When I first planned this trip, I never though I will go to Gambia. But when you are travelling, you always heard of people talking about a certain country nearby which always make you wanted to go there. Gambia is the one. When I was traveling around morocco, I told people I will fly to Dakar, everyone suggested me to go to Gambia also because it’s a place to relax:P So, after 2 days in Senegal, I decided I need to go there to take a look. I hired the same guide again who took me to Lac Rose and it’s freaking 350 Euro just to go there for 2 days! But flying there will be around US$580. Maybe I did the right choice to overland over there?????????

Senegal to Gambia

I had to work up at 6am in the morning in order to go to the shuttle station. It’s a 5 hours drive all the way down to the border of Gambia. My guide helped me to get a seat right next to the driver so it wasn’t that bad on the road. After the road trip and border control, we then had to take a ferry to cross the Gambia river and get to the capital city-Banjul.

From there, we took a taxi to a paradise town called Bakau:) By the time We got there’s it’s already 4:00pm.

Local are playing football there but tourists can found all sorts of activities to do over there- just like the Caribbean:)

Sunset was beautiful and we had a beautiful dinner on the beachfront because the villa we were staying were a beach front villa. So beautiful!

The next morning, I woke up at around 8am and went for a walk. I went to a delta which lead to the Gambia River.

Then walk along the beach by myself:) I noticed one things very interesting-there’s so many Gambia guys doing push up or weigh lifting by the beach! And there’s many Gambia guys walking around topless and showing off their muscular body!

Before I went to Gambia, people already told me Gambia is a paradise for many european because-

(1) The beach is beautiful over there(well, it’s not as beautiful as most Caribbean island to me:P)

(2) There are many hot Gambian Guys and Girls over there and a lot of European came all the way down there for this!

So, for my 2 hours walk along the beach, every 10 mins there would be some local guys come up to me and tried to talk to me. They would told me how lucky they were to see me today and they dreamed of marriage one day @_@ Hah….what a funny experience:P

  6. Dearest Tammy,
Wise decision for going to Gambia. Even with the travel taking that many hours but worth it. That’s also the ONLY way for getting a feel how locals live over there and how they cope with distances. You were lucky for having the same guide joining you. Looks like those male want to impress on females by showing off their toned bodies and strength…
Have a safe journey and I wish you could add some flags to my blog: http://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/
