Odd Things to consider before you decide how long you want to travel

Odd Things to consider before you decide how long you want to travel

Today, I officially have travel outside NYC for a month:) To be honest, I felt quite exhausted already. I took 200-500 photos everyday, but when you had already seen thousands and thousands of churches and monasteries  you will feel nothing is special anymore! To me, I agree with most people-having a vacation in between job is always better than to travel indefinitely. Also, I have to agree on what my mom always said- IF EVERYONE JUST TRAVEL INDEFINITELY AND DO NOT HAVE A REAL JOB, THIS WHOLE ECONOMY IS GOING TO COLLAPSE BECAUSE OF YOU PEOPLE!:)..Do you agree?

To most people…..traveling is always fun, regardless whether the reason is for leisure or work. However, you have to know a couple of things (other than your budget and interests) before you decide how long you want to travel:

(1) Bordem-most people when they travel, they will pick a certain area and spend a bit of time over there. For example, if you are traveling throughout Central America, you will repeatedly see Mayan Ruins over and over again. The first time you see the Ruin maybe you will be super excited, but then after couples of Mayan Ruins, I am sure you will have enough of it.

(2) Annoying people-I agree it’s always exciting to meet new friends and have somethings new to talk about. But once in a while you might bumped into some very annoying people which you really want to slap them. They were just arrogant and talked about non-sense all the time. The main problem was, they would loved to stick with you and talked to you and you have nowhere to hide unless you told them you are busy! BUt if you are on a local tour, believe me, you really would wanted to kill yourself or would love to tell them you are deaf!!!:P

(3) Repeated questions and answers– Where are you from, How long you have been traveling, Where have you been so far? OH MAN! Why do I have to answer this every single day???? Why do you freaking care? Are we going to be best friend after this? I am not sure. Why don’t we just enjoy the scenery or talk about philosophy instead:P To me, sometimes it’s pretty annoying if I want to take photographs and enjoy my moment but people keep bothering me

(4) The so called New friends– Many of you have already asked me how come I travel by myself and do not get bored. TO be honest, I sometimes rather it’s true that I travel by myself but it’s always NOT the case. When you travel alone, you will meet up with so many people on the way- smart people, stupid people, annoying people, beautiful people, etc, etc. I love to meet up new friend…. really, but does one or two days of traveling together make you two best friends? Or just facebook friends? I am not sure. I believe having a relationship with people need efforts! Really!!! Just like when I started this blog, I am so glad that me and certain bloggers are making effort to become real friend and we will talk to each other through message other than leaving comments. I really REALLY like this kind of relationship. To me, I do not need TONS of friends, I just need the best of friend who really take the effort to be friends with me.

(5) Chasing flight, bus, ferry, etc-You are constantly on the go and always in a hurry. Do you think you can handle this long term?

(6) Missing families and friend back home-I love my family and I constantly miss them:) Regardless of how many mistakes you make, they will always love you and forgive you. There’s nothing in this world can compare to the importance of my family. And I am sure that’s the main reason why a lot of people reject the idea of traveling indefinitely.

(7) Missing having a comfortable home-Don’t you guys just love sleeping in your own comfortable clean bed and do not need to live out of a suitcase?

(8) Food-To be honest, I am a VERY VERY open-minded person. I adapt quit easily and love to try new things-including food:) But I assure you, sometimes you just really really miss the food back home, regardless of how tasty the local food is. AND, if the local food sucks @_@, that’s really ….SERIOUSLY will drive you NUCKS!!! I mean I do not hate the food in portugal, but …..I really do not love them:P below are some of the food I have ate-

grilled fish from portugal
porto portugal
pastry from portugal

There are many stories behind the food I ate..BUT I don’t want to make this post too long:) If you guys really want to know, I will try to tell you all later:P..ahahahha. Until then, see you all in Andorra. Yup, I will catch a flight to Spain tomorrow from Portugal and take a bus to Andorra. After Andorra I will head to Malaga and get ready for my Trans-Africa Trip! I cannot wait and Cheers guys:)

  5. Ya, i am agree with you, it’s like you can read my mind. There are also RULES. Different places have different rules and jokes and sometimes it’s just hard or no way to be adapted with. Nothing more luxus then our own home where we set our own rules. Have a nice trip and adventure, Tammy!

  6. I really like this post, something different! If everybody would travel all the time, things would definitely be different. But, with that being said: I don’t get to travel too often (I have to save up and I don’t get so many days of work) so I would very much like to travel more.
But since last year I’ve been saving well and travelled at least 4 times (city trips and a vacation to NY). So I will not complain too much;)

  14. Dearest Tammy,
You no doubt will make it. Yes, it is tough to live out of a suitcase. My husband and I did that with our worldwide consulting. Our friends and family often said they envy us and we were constantly on vacation. NO; that’s not the true feeling, as you already mentioned above. It is not easy and it requires lots of sacrifices but I guess in the end, the experience will stay with you for a life time and we for sure will not whine easily.
Keep your chin up – no matter what! And learn from my husband what he used to tell me if we met such unwanted ‘friends’… Are you not glad you have to take them home with you; to live with?! Sure, that helps for getting the right attitude. For a couple of hours we can bear them and than move on.
    Hugs to you,

  15. Hi Tammy, I enjoyed reading through this post, I can imagine that you would be homesick after a month. Lol about the annoying people, how do you diplomatically go about avoiding them. It is the worst thing when you’re traveling and everyone asked you the same questions, I agree. Good luck for the next leg of your journey

  20. I am so glad, you made a post like this, I have been wondering and wanting to ask you of the negative sides of travelling long time.
You are such a dear for sharing and your blog is just always helping me decide on my kind of near future travelling plans!
I will miss my family too, but I think I can quite put up with it, been a boarding house student as a kid has really helped and I adapt so quickly, I will advice you to ignore those annoying people, they are everywhere.
Kisses and hugs dear, have fun in Andorra and Malaga!!
    Love you!

  21. Tammy, your mom is so smart and funny. She is right. The rational behind what she said is that if people just travel and don’t do any work or have a job, whether paid or volunteer, they don’t contribute towards any productivity to the economy. But anyway, you are also so right about all of your points here. As you can only view so much works of art, so much churches , so much monuments and palaces and then you can only eat so much sardines!!!! I am just wondering how you are managing your wardrobe? Do you do laundry? Maybe I will ask you on Twitter about this and then give me some tips. You know I enjoy your adventures and photos always. Take care…

  29. Love this post!!! I loved travelling alone! Now I would rather travel with my husband ^^But I understand that everyone was like…alone??? its sooo scary, difficult, boring, etc…. ! but I love it 🙂 Also thing that going back to the same place is kinda disappointing. Though there are same places I would love to go back a zillion times, three actually ( Tennessee, London and Iceland). 🙂
So cool you are also in fashion, I now live in Linz and there is not much fashion to do….trying to figure out how to make that work…while studying german! lol

  36. Hi Tammy! Omg number 3 made me laugh so hard and I agree with number 7!! One thing that I’m really anal about is setting up my stuff in the hotel room, more specifically the bathroom! I find that there’s never enough space and I also realize how much junk/stuff I actually use but am not aware of at home haha

I remember the first few times I traveled I felt that boredom too but I try not to feel it now and try to see things in different perceptives which usually means different photographs etc. Ahhh this makes me want to travel again and yes, I’d love to hear about the stores behind the food!

  42. These are very helpful tips! I think I’d miss the food and comforts of home the most. I don’t think I could travel for very long periods of time…I might be going to Europe soon and I will be gone for 3 weeks at most (especially since I have a dog and he might think I’ve abandoned him!)…a month might be a little too long, although I’d hope that I can visit again in my lifetime and not just once.
