Inspirations From Lisbon, Sintra, Porto

Inspirations From Lisbon, Sintra, Porto

I went to Portugal hoping to do some activities-canyoning, rafting, surfing and Blokarting, etc. However, when I arrived there 3 days ago, almost all the activities were closed since they said winter came too early this year and it’s too cold for some of the stuff. Well, portugal is still one of the best places in the world to travel- let’s start with all the inspirational photos and you will understand-

And, I was told that the writer(J.K. Rowling) of Harry potter got her inspiration in Porto, anyone know anything about this? Well, I did see a lot of people dressing up in Cape and the train station in Porto is really awesome:) I also went to this book store called  Lello & Irmão! It did seems to me that it might be true although there’s still some debate about this. What do you think?

  1. Wow! Amazing photos! So much beautiful history in the buildings! I would love to travel there as that’s where my shoes are made! LOL!

  2. Dearest Tammy,
You are a great photographer too! Love your views from Portugal. We’ve been there and LOVED the country. It has a special charm and the architecture is beautiful with great cathedrals where you find still the old pipe organs. We got a glimpse of a wedding at that time and would have loved to stay longer…
What a lot of black capes are being worn there, that speaks volumes.
Hugs to you and enjoy every part of the trip.

Lisbon and Porto have such an amazing architecture and they are so alive that it’s a pleasure to be there 🙂 have you ever happened to be in Porto for the Sao Joao in summer? It’s the biggest party of the year because he’s the patron saint of the city! The atmosphere is fantastic!

  15. I am enjoying Portugal through your photos. It is so colourful and artistic. Great photos Tammy!

From what I read and from videos of J. K Rowling, she said her self that she dreamt of Harry Potter on a train ride from Scotland to London. J.K. Rowling was poor at that time, even on welfare. So I don’t know how Portugal got into that story.

Have a fun trip and take care! Pamela 🙂

  49. Hi there 😀
Loved your post about portugal! I’m portuguese, and just to clear up the “cape” thing, it’s a tradition from portuguese universities. Each place has a different vest, and yes ideed, the vest from Oporto university is really similar to the Hogwarts one x) By september and may you can find a lot of people dressed like that because of the academic festevities.
It’s really good to see that you loved this little country, great photos and wonderful website!

  50. Hi!
I am Portuguese and a huge Harry Potter fan, and yes it is true J.K. Rowling took inspiration from Portuguese culture and Porto specially, since she lived there for a few years teaching english. even Salazar Slytherin was inspired in a Portuguese dictator, Oliveira Salazar. I find your post most refreshing. Portugal is in my opinion one of the European countries that is most undervalued, with an immensely rich culture and land ready to be explored. Thanks!
