Andorra-A Shopping Paradise

Andorra-A Shopping Paradise

When I first planed my trip, I knew I need to passby Barcelona in order to get to Malaga from Lisbon. Since I want to go to as many country as possible during this trip, I knew that I want to go to Andorra because it’s so close to Barcelona. There’s NO airport in Andorra and the best way to get there is to take a shuttle from BNC airport. However, to me It’s a miracle that I can get into this tiny country before dark because I landed at 3pm and the shuttle run at 3:15 pm that day:P. I can say I am such a lucky girl because if I didn’t catch that shuttle, I need to wait for another 2 hours for the next shuttle.

On the shuttle, I talked to the local people regarding Andorra and I asked them the things to do in Andorra. Then they asked me how long I planed to stay there. Well, that’ the point, I will only stay there for A DAY!! When I do my research, I found out that Andorra is a Ski resort town but I do not plan to ski over there. That’s why I decided only to spend on day there. But to my surprise, this country is MORE than just a Ski or hiking place! Why? Well, if you see the price of cigarette and Booze are cheaper than the Duty free at the airport, you will all understand why:P!!!!

I don’t know about your country, but in the states, the price for above stuffs cost at least double(or maybe triple)!!! After that, I went to a store that sell Christian Louboutin shoes and Ann Demeulemeester clothings! OMG, they are all 35% cheaper than the US. And…..I went to the jewelry store and see this-

I was really tempted, really. If I am not going to Africa, I think I will definitely buy a lot of stuff! Everything to me seems so cheap there. And there’s a big shopping mall at downtown Andorra.

There’s a lot of tourists from the UK.

So, after I got back to my hotel and got online, I finally realized Andorra is a tax free country which people can shop like crazy. And I do think Andorra is beautiful……the lake, the mountains….

However, the tourist infrastructure of this country is REALLY POOR!! I arrived my hotel and tried to gather some information on what to do in this country but nobody can tell me! Their answer is always I DON”T KNOW!. Although I stayed at a pretty nice hotel with mountain view already, people there really care less about tourism at all!(at least that’s what I feel).Or maybe that’s really NOT a lot of things to do in Andorra.

To me, Andorra feel like Vermont or any other ski resort in New York. I really feel like I am back to North America instead of Europe! But if you asked me whether I will suggest American to come all the way to Andorra for hiking or skiing. I will say..probably NOT..unless you really want to do some serious shopping:P Local people were so surprised I planed on staying there for just a day and suggested me I should stayed in Barcelona for a day and NOT Andorra. I really do not know how to answer! The mountain view is beautiful and I am telling you, the 6 hours drive to get to and from Andorra is SUPER beautiful!!(sorry, couldn’t stop on the way to take photos!)

However, I will never plan on going back …ever:P I rather go to Whisters or colorado instead:P

However if skiing is your thing, you should definitely try Sankt Anton in western Austria. It’s one of the best ski destinations in the world and apart from the amazing dozens of km of slopes they also have one of the best apres ski bars in the world! I’m a fan eversince I first went there a couple of years ago. 🙂
